Chougendo (The Buddhist Sculpture Conservation and Restoration Laboratory, Minobusan University International Institute for Nichiren Buddhism)
Chougendo (The Buddhist Sculptures Conservation and Restoration Laboratory, Minobusan University International Institute for Nichiren Buddhism) is a cultural heritage research laboratory that engages in the production and restoration of Buddhist statues. In particular, the institute is involved in the production of Buddhist statues carved out of wood, using mainly cypress and camphor trees as materials. Research students and students of Minobusan University work very diligently.
Having participated in the “Great East Japan Earthquake Memorial Buddhist Statue Construction Project”, the “Kenshinin Temple at Mt. Shichimen Restoration Project,” and the “Restoration Project of Buddhist Statues in the World Heritage Site of Laos”, we are committed to protecting Buddhist statues around the world, both in and outside of Japan.
We take custom orders for carved, lacquered, gold foil-applied, and multicolor pigmentation-finished Buddhist statues at our workshop in Mt. Minobu.
